This recipe provides a fast, creamy avocado sauce that works perfectly as a topping for tacos, burritos, or as a simple dip. You make this zesty avocado crema in under 10 minutes using fresh ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 1/4 cup water (add more for thinner consistency)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a food processor or high-speed blender.
  2. Add the cilantro, lime juice, water, garlic, salt, and pepper to the food processor.
  3. Process the ingredients until the sauce is completely smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides as needed.
  4. If you prefer a thinner avocado drizzle or dressing consistency, add water one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired texture.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or lime juice as needed.
  6. Serve this easy avocado topping immediately over your favorite Mexican-inspired dishes, or chill for later use as a quick avocado dip.

Notes

  • For a healthier variation using Greek yogurt, substitute 1/4 cup of the water with plain Greek yogurt. This adds tang and protein.
  • To make this a vegan avocado sauce, omit the Greek yogurt variation and ensure all other ingredients are plant-based.
  • This sauce is naturally gluten-free and paleo-compliant when made with the base ingredients listed.
  • Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Add a squeeze of fresh lime juice on top before sealing to slow down browning.
