Make this easy baked shrimp toast for a crispy, savory appetizer or snack. This recipe focuses on achieving a golden, crunchy texture without frying, making it a simple and flavorful seafood snack perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 slices white bread, crusts removed
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped scallions (green parts only)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Sesame seeds for topping (optional)
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly brush a baking sheet with olive oil.
  2. Prepare the shrimp mixture: Place the shrimp, mayonnaise, minced garlic, chopped scallions, soy sauce, sesame oil, white pepper, and egg white into a food processor. Pulse until the mixture is finely ground but still has some texture. Do not over-process into a paste.
  3. Spread the shrimp mixture evenly over one side of each slice of bread, covering the surface completely.
  4. If desired, sprinkle the tops lightly with sesame seeds.
  5. Place the bread slices, shrimp-side up, on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes, or until the shrimp topping is cooked through and the edges of the bread are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove from the oven. Let the shrimp toast cool slightly before slicing each piece into two or three triangles.
  8. Serve warm, garnished with fresh herbs if you choose. This is a great party food appetizer.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly toast the bread on the non-shrimp side in a toaster or dry pan for 1 minute before adding the topping.
  • Serve this Asian shrimp appetizer with a side of sweet chili sauce for dipping.
  • If you prefer a richer flavor, substitute the egg white with 1 tablespoon of melted butter mixed into the shrimp topping.
