Make this easy Dorito Casserole for a quick weeknight dinner. This recipe uses ground beef, a creamy sauce, and a crunchy topping of crushed tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup salsa, mild or medium
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 bag (9.25 ounces) Nacho Cheese flavored Doritos, crushed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, salsa, chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder. Stir until smooth.
  4. Add the cooked meat mixture and water to the soup mixture. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  5. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese into the meat and sauce mixture.
  6. Spread half of the crushed Doritos into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  7. Pour the meat and sauce mixture evenly over the layer of chips.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the mixture.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes.
  10. Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining crushed Doritos evenly over the top layer.
  11. Return the casserole to the oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the topping is lightly browned.
  12. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicy Dorito Casserole, use hot salsa or add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the sauce mixture.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef if you prefer a lighter flavor.
  • If you want a layered tortilla chip bake, alternate layers of the meat mixture and whole or broken chips instead of crushing all the chips for the topping.
